Special and Non-Special Waste Classification, Planning and Reporting (Public/Private)

Special and Non-Special Waste classification, planning, handling and disposal can be a critical part of ongoing operations or development/redevelopment projects for both public and private entities. Classification, hauling, handling and disposal of special/non-special wastes can involve additional expenses that significantly impact operational and project costs. Regulatory sampling protocol must be followed along with associated handling, preservation, chain of custody and recordkeeping which can be difficult to identify, understand and follow. Part of the process can sometimes include the onsite presence of an environmental professional to oversee excavation and handling ensuring best practices are followed based on site and material conditions.

Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) – Tier II

The EPCRA requires industry to report annually on the storage, use and release of hazardous chemicals as a measure to help emergency planning officials with incident preplanning. Chemical inventory reporting must include specific information and be provided to a series of emergency response entities depending on geographic location.

RCRA Evaluation and Permitting

The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) program established requirements regarding the treatment, storage and disposal of hazardous waste. The Act provides technical and administrative requirements under which waste at a facility must be managed. After a thorough investigation identifying and classifying a facility’s regulated waste streams, IEG can complete necessary permitting and develop plans and procedures for the appropriate collection, storage and disposal of such waste streams.

IEG has years of experience assisting facilities with permitting ranging from Small Quantity Generator Status to larger hazardous waste storage and management facilities with Solid Waste Management Units (SWMU) having specific facility design and operation standards with a wide array of monitoring and recordkeeping requirements. IEG professionals will conduct a thorough regulatory review and facility analysis to determine if RCRA permitting is warranted as well as provide subsequent permit application preparation, operating parameters, plans and Best Management Practices.

RCRA Compliance Monitoring

Specialists at Illinois Recovery Group can assist with interpretation of applicable regulatory requirements, formulation and implementation of compliance monitoring strategies. Compliance inspections, evaluations and investigations may be necessary to determine adequacy of existing practices or the scope and extent of improvements that may be necessary. IEG professionals can provide data collection, review and reporting associated with identified monitoring requirements.
